Moving on up
I was quasi-promoted this week and now I’m working for two groups, both equaties and derivatives in my firm. I’m a lot busier which is good and on top of that, I’ve been able to see how research is formulated and the publishing process and contracts involved. Good stuff all around, including the new desk and people I work with
What an adventure
I finally saw Avatar in IMAX 3D…what a movie! I don’t even know where to start. Admittedly, the story has been told before but the details in this movie are just wow!
Just to note, while this movie and the world created in it is close to flawless, I’m not one of those people who was struck with depression on how our world wasn’t like theirs
It was an adventure and it was worth the wait
IT guys need to chill out
I can’t access Tumblr at work anymore :(. Major lame factor. Someone apparently decided that Tumblr is counterproductive to one’s work over the weekend. It really isn’t. Seriously, it isn’t.
I’m surprised I can still google something.
Btw
Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep tied for best actress at the Critics Choice Awards last night… Which surprised me. Sandy beat out Gaborey Sidibe and Carey Mulligan
I’m looking forward to the Golden Globes tomorrow… Not just because of Sandy’s double nomination though. I’ll post my predictions tomorrow
Adulthood events
Every boy dreams of the day he turns 23 and realizes that he now has to pay an annual fee for a beach club that his parents belong to.
The application is ridiculous. Asks me all my normal information, now including the nature of my employment.
Then it goes on to ask if I own:
- a boat…no
- a plane…no
Both are immediately followed up by my wine preference…Australian reds...

This doesn’t bode well for my plans for applying/reapplying to schools this year
Stay positive, Richie.
Why this isn't the best Friday
Economists and their predictions once again fail us and continue to send our market economy into a state of pessimism, such is the theme at work today.
85,000 jobs lost in December, after a 4,000 job gain in November.
This creates yet another veil of uncertainty and the growing realization that this economy isn’t going to recover just yet.
Aside from my personal feelings alone, there...
Maybe it's just me, but...
…the hot topic this week is all about technology.
2010 will be the revolution
3-D television, more questioning how possible time travel is, gaming systems that will read our bodies, airport scanners that DO read our bodies (and upset people)
It’s crazy…I feel like there is definitely opportunity there. Technology is always going to be advancing…I can only hope this...
People's Choice Awards :)
I’m loving this show tonight because…
Sandra Bullock wins Best Movie actress….highlight of my night
The Proposal wins best comedy film (over Hangover, which I was surprised about)
The Big Bang Theory wins Best Comedy Series….they deserve it (Just got seasons 1 & 2)
oh man
Watching the Iowa/Georgia Tech football game, I really wish I had the experience to REALLY get into college football. I don’t really know what school spirit is like. GW didn’t really have it, but compensated in a ton of other ways…well scratch that (sort of) because our basketball team seems to be doing really well this year. They haven’t done this well since I was a...
Booyah!
Pure Power Bootcamp, whose voicemail says they were booked through 2010 called me just now and have a spot open. I begin a 6 week training session next Monday.
I’m so pumped…this is going to be an amazing experience…If I’m in good enough shape…I might just go on spring break and say that I’m in college.
Easiest cities to find a job
top 10 cities based on some rough (and I mean rough) data sent to me:
10. Austin, Texas
9. San Antonio, Texas 8. Denver, Colorado 7. Hartford, Connecticut
6. Salt Lake City, Utah
5. New York, New York 4. Boston, Massachusetts
3. Baltimore, Maryland
2. San Jose, California (This one surprised me the most) 1. Washington, D.C.
Basically this list was compiled by looking at the ratio between...
2010--The year of learning
My sister and I had a discussion and wrote down 10 New Years Resolutions…and between 10 of them (some of which aren’t really resolutions) there is a common denominator:
Self-learning
I’m going to read more…I want to read more self-improvement books.
I want to regain the savviness I had in politics when I lived in D.C., I feel being in NY, while local politics are...
outside the lines
I question people who feel like they have EVERYTHING in New York City…
I’ve spent nearly the last six weeks aside from a few holidays and a weekend on Long Island…even when I come home, as much as it feels like high school again, I appreciate it more.
I think I am itching to get out of NY itself….My sister and I were talking in the car the other day and I asked her,...
